Robert (Bob) Rice

Robert

Chairman of the Board, Rev. George L. Fox Memorial Chapel

With over five decades of combined experience in the military and private sector, Bob Rice brings a deep sense of discipline, service, and leadership to his role as Chairman of the Board. A retired Infantry First Sergeant and seasoned purchasing executive, Bob has spent his life leading teams, managing complex operations, and giving back to his community.

Bob’s military career included serving as First Sergeant, and his commitment to veterans has extended long after active duty. He has held numerous leadership roles with the American Legion, including Post Commander (5 years), County Commander (2 years), and District Commander (6 years). Professionally, he worked as Purchasing Manager and Regional Purchasing Manager for Ethan Allen. He also served as a lay leader at Grace Methodist Church, continuing his lifelong focus on faith and service.

His inspiration for joining the board is rooted in the story of the Four Chaplains—a powerful example of courage and sacrifice that continues to move him deeply. “Every time I go into the Chapel, it gives me a feeling of wanting to help others,” he says. “It may sound funny to some folks, but that’s the feeling I get.”

As Chairman, Bob’s primary focus is on safety and security. He currently oversees the construction of the chapel’s museum walls and installation of key systems like security cameras and a new sound system. He’s also coordinating with local vendors to organize a free summer concert in the park, further expanding the chapel’s community reach.

Bob’s strengths include strong organizational skills, a calm and focused leadership style, and a drive to see projects through to completion. He holds a certificate in Purchasing Management from the National Association of Purchasing Managers, attended First Sergeants Academy at Fort Benning, and completed one year of college coursework.

Based in Canaan, Vermont, Bob enjoys woodworking and woodturning in his free time—a hands-on reflection of his dedication to building things that last.
